How To’s
v Logins and passwords – I would like to
clarify the issue of logins and passwords.
1. For the chat room. Simply getting into the room does
not mean you are register. The very first time you enter you must double
click on your name and fill in the password. This password can be
ANYTHING YOU WANT IT TO BE. Just remember what it is. The next time
you log in after you hit connect a little window will pop up and ask you for
your password. Suggestion, After you hit the connect
button, scroll back up to the top of the screen. The box pops up there
and some of you might not see it if you don’t scroll back up. Also during
busy times it can be slow in appearing.
2. For the message board. When you register, after you hit register, the system will send you an email giving you a password. Wait for it to come in your email before you try to login. After it arrives, login using it and then go to profile and change the password to ANYTHING YOU WANT IT TO BE. Again make it something that you can remember. And please also remember that the system is case sensitive. You must use upper and lower case the same way every time. I have found it easier to use lower case always. In your profile there is a place to put the name you want seen.
v Private Messages on message board.
1. The message board has a private message system similar to the one on HGTV. If you click on the members name in one of their post or go to the list of members and clicking on there name, their profile will open and at the bottom of it the is a line that reads “send private message to this member” If you click on that, a message screen will open and you can type them a message.
2. Any time you have a message waiting for you a little pop up will tell you that the moment you log in. If you are online on the MB and someone send you a message it pops up also.
3. This will be an excellent way to communicate with committee chairpersons and the officers if it isn’t urgent. If it is urgent send a regular email.
4. Also use it to talk to each other privately if you want too.
v Use of message board
1. We have broken the message board into very specific topic areas. Please adhere to keeping your posts within those areas related to the topic of that areas. These will be cleaned up periodically to delete old topics that haven’t been posted to in a while or that are no longer relevant such as after a swap is over that swap talk will be removed.
2. We have added a “Chatter Room” in this area you can talk about ANYTHING you want to. Keep it clean, unlike or sewing room’s J and keep it nice. No arguing!
v Use of chat room
1. Within the next several days we will be putting in place a new chat room “The Coffee Chat”. You will be able to get to it from the Cyber Café. That chat room will be always open for you to visit with other members and talk about what ever you want to talk about. The login and password in that room will be the same as in this one.
2. The chat room we are in right now “The Meeting Room” will be kept strictly for that purpose – to hold meetings. The officers will use it for our meeting, the committees can use it for their meetings, and once the Cybee groups are started they can use it also. I know this sounds nasty and I don’t mean for it too, but anyone entering the meeting room during a meeting that doesn’t belong in that meeting will be asked to leave.
3. Meeting times will be scheduled and within the next week we will notify committee chairperson and Cybee group leaders how to schedule the use of the room.
v The Website
1. First I want to say how much CathyOH appreciate the nice comments and compliments about the appearance of the message board and the web pages. I enjoy this type of computer work so it has been fun for me. Well not so much fun when my email box has 20 emails titled “HELP” of course. J
2. No seriously, never feel like you are bothering me by asking a question or for help.
3. I do however ask several specific things of you when you do.
§ There are over 200 members now so PLEASE make sure you give both you real name and your screen name in your email.
§ When you are having a problem with either the message board or the chat rooms, please make sure you specifically say which one. I have received several emails that say “I’m having trouble logging in” Well that’s not good, but trouble logging in to where?
§ If you have a problem with a web page make sure you copy the url of that page and paste it into the email or at least make clear what the contents of that page is. There are well over 60 pages on the web site now and it grows almost everyday so it is very hard to help if we don’t know where to look.
4. Lastly, if you have ANY comments or suggestions for the web site, we want to hear from you. Yes negative comments too! J
5. Let us know what you like, what you don’t like, suggestions for content, whatever it is you are thinking.
v Cybee Groups
1. We have been pleased to read your comments about the Cybee groups on the Message Board. I think they will be a lot of fun for everyone. A way to get to know each other better, share ideas and do good things.
2. With Cybeekeepers now on board, we will be assigning everyone to groups. The decision has been made to randomly assign members to their groups. We are going to try to make sure there is at least one skilled quilter in each and someone who likes to participate.
3. There will be a “Queen Bee” in each group. By the way, you can thank Spotty for the Cybee name and she says it is pronounced “sigh-bees” !!! And Joyus for the “Queen Bee” title!!! For now, a person will be asked to fill that position, in the future, after we get to know one another better that might change. But that is for you to decide when the time comes.
4. Each group will need to select a name for their group.
5. Cybee Groups can have their own scheduled meeting, have inter-group swaps, basically whatever you can imagine for your groups you can do. The only rules are:
· to include everyone, if they don’t participate that’s their choice and their loss
· and remember that not everyone in the group has the same skill level in quilting so plan accordingly
6. You can also have a web page dedicated to your groups activities if you want. Don’t worry, you design it, Cathy will build and publish it for you!!!
7. Some of the Service projects and challenges might be by Cybee Groups rather than just by individual.
8. The Cybeekeepers will be there to help you plan activities and answer your questions. Just keep in mind that this is a new thing for them to so be patient with them.
9. Most of all have fun with it.
