President
Spottedcow:
Hello,
My
name is Janet Myers, aka Spottedcow.
I
have one daughter, Sonya, and one Grand Daughter, Shanelle. I also have a
Standard Poodle names Salem. two Quacker
Parrots,
two Rosy Bourgs,
three parakeets, and 15 Doves in a flight cage in the back yard.
I
just started learning to quilt in January of 2003. I feel as though this has
become my calling in life. I love the challenge of making
blocks and putting them together to form a
quilt. It seems like I just can't learn all the quilting tecniques
fast enough. I always haveat least three projects
going at the same time. I have met so many great people through learning to
quilt, people that I never would
have met any other way.
I
am so happy this Guild has started and that so many wonderful people have
joined in this venture. I look forward
to serving as the President this year,
and helping Cathy design the website.

Vice
President
Beachdreams:
Hi, my name is Teresa, aka Beachdreams!
I am currently serving as Vice President to our
wonderful Guild and as Co-Queen Bee to that fun and funky Maine to Maryland
Madwomen Quilting Group! I live in a
busy suburb of the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area. In fact, I am about 15-20
mins from Wash.D.C, Baltimore and Annapolis. I'm in the middle of all three. We are about 2.5 hrs
from the ocean, (which makes for frequent day and weekend trips) and about 1
hr from the mountains. I am a very
happy 42 years old. I have lived in my
home here for the past 11 years with my wonderful husband Stephen (a police
officer), my terrific 19 year-old son Michael (a sophomore in a local
college), and sweet 16 year-old daughter Kelcy (a junior at our local
Catholic high school). I have a BS in
Prelaw and as a Paralegal from the University of Maryland. I am a licensed
paramedic by profession. Unfortunately, I was retired (involuntarily) a
couple of years ago due to a significant knee injury that resulted from an
unfortunate traumatic fall I had while on an emergency response. I am no
longer able to run the tremendous volume of calls that we experience in our
busy suburban area, so I now teach the Paramedic Program at our local college
as an Associate Professor. I am
enjoying this experience! I also maintain a cosmetology license
(hairstylist’s) that I acquired when I was about 18, as a way to help finance
my college education. It was a good
investment, and I'll never give up that license.....of course, my family and
friends don't mind the perks either!
In my 'spare' time, I
travel a lot to Florida and visit my best friend, Karen (who has a home there
and a home near here in Baltimore…..and, I just recently ‘converted’ her to quilting!!!).
I also like to paint, draw, sew, try any kind of craft, bake (HATE to cook,
but I'll bake anything from scratch), and, occasionally try to grow some
cooking herbs, like parsley, thyme, etc; BUT, I kill silk plants, so
gardening or maintaining live plants is usually challenging for me! My favorite ‘craft’ is quilting, and my
least favorite is rug hooking. I also
LOVE power tools and build lots of STUFF.
I like the challenge. I love to read medical text books.....go figure.
I especially love to read anything related to quilting. I started quilting many years ago, as I
learned from my Grandma (deceased) when I was a kid. I didn't start ‘getting
into it’ until just a few years ago. I have only made one ‘BIG’ quilted
project, as I tend to work on small to mostly medium sized projects. Our
Guild has sparked my interest in doing ‘bigger’ projects. I do most stuff on the machine (Husqvarna-Viking
555), although I often add embellishments by hand. I love color, fabric painting and
embellishments, thus, you will always see me asking the question: Are
embellishments allowed?! I very much
love nontraditional stuff, like art quilts, and putting a new twist on
traditional blocks. And, for some reason, I am intrigued by Baltimore Album Quilts and feathered stars. I am fortunate to have
a small studio ( 9’.5”x10' room). I have many
shelves of fabric and stuff. It is
not quite organized to my liking, but is on its way. Fortunately, my family ‘understands’ my
fabric addiction and are very supportive!
I’ve enjoyed our
Guild over the course of the past year, it’s ‘first’ year, and I look forward
to getting to know more of our cyber sisters in 2005! I love listening to and talking with
people. I am always open to
suggestions and new ideas, and I am always looking to learn something
EVERYDAY. I am fortunate to be
surrounded by such caring people in this Guild. I have already learned so
much........usually computer related, as I am somewhat techno
challenged…..and I cannot wait to see what you have to share with me
tomorrow! Thanks for a great year in
2004 and I look forward to many new adventures in 2005! Hugs.

Secretary/Treasure
JudyTX:
I am JudyTX Smith. I'm in Tyler, TX, where I have lived for the past 39 yrs. During that
time, I have served as secretary and/or treasurer of several different
organizations. While my three children were in school, I was active in PTA,
serving in all offices at one time or another. I have been secretary for our
local Woodmen of the World group. I have also served as secretary in my local
church groups for many years.
I am a widow for 7+ yrs. now, and my three children are all adults. I have
two granddaughters, both living near Tyler, so, I get to be "Grammie" once in a while,
too. I love to do hand embroidery. I thoroughly enjoy quilting, and I enjoy
traveling. I still make several trips a year to MO to visit my late husband's
family.
