General Swap Rules

These are the guide lines you must follow when joining a swap on CFQG:

1.     Everyone is welcome to join a swap of their choosing.

2.     If you would like to join a swap, please sign up on the swap page under the correct swap name.

3.     Once you have joined a swap. and it has started, you must post on the swap page when you send your blocks.

4.     When the hostess receives your blocks, she will post that she has them. This will let all swappers know that their blocks made it to the hostess.

5.     If you are having a problem finishing your swap blocks, you must notify the hostess as soon as possible so that someone can help you work out your problem or so that someone can take your place in the swap.

6.     All fabric used in swaps MUST be good quality, 100% cotton.  No thin or light weight fabric will be accepted - they will be returned to you.  This makes for a happy swap!

7.     All blocks are to be the color and size required for the swap. Please double check all measurements before sending your blocks. No one likes to receive a block that measures 12 inches when it was suppose to be 12.5 inches.

8.     All blocks should be placed in zip lock bags with a card that has the hostess' name and address on one side and your name and address on the other side. When sending your blocks out, have card turned with hostess' name showing. When the hostess sends your blocks back, she will turn the card over, showing your name and address.

9.     Please mark all your blocks with your board name so those receiving them will know who made them. This can be a return address sticker or even a piece of freezer paper ironed on to each block with your name on it.

10.  You MUST include a SASE(stamped, self-addressed envelope)  with your swap blocks so that your blocks can be returned to you. Please be sure the post office applies stamps and does not meter the return envelope.  Your hostess is not responsible for the return postage. If you do not send a SASE with your swap blocks, your new blocks will not be returned to you till the hostess receives postage. No Exceptions!

11.   Please include a fabric sheet (i.e. Bounce) in the zip lock bag with your blocks.

12.   Please follow all the guide lines for a successful swap.

A note:

I know some of these rules may sound a little harsh, but they all help a swap run smoothly.

I have read comments and emails from a number of new quilters that joining a swap makes them very apprehensive: do I know enough to complete the block, is my piecing accurate enough and what will I do if someone doesn't like what I send???   But everyone should remember that we were all newbies at one time, and there has to be a first block and a first swap for everyone!

There are a number of things everyone can do that will help you with your swap. Be sure and double or triple check the size of the block you are sending.  If it is the wrong size, the recipient will have trouble joining it to the rest of the blocks.   Double check that you are following the color choices called  for.   Did the Hostess call for white on white (WOW) or off white? If it was WOW, then don't use plain white.  If you have any question about the fabric you are planning on using, then contact the Hostess   That's why she is there. It's easier to talk to the Hostess, then send the wrong blocks and have them returned to you.

Press your seams as you go.  Not only does it make the block assembly easier for you, it helps the recipient as well because she doesn't have to take the time to press your block.   I use a light starch when I am assembling my blocks. When I have seams to match up, I use lots of pins.

Be sure and package your blocks properly and include the SASE.

The most important thing to remember about the swap is to have FUN!!!

Here's a little something for everyone to think about -

"I've been stressing myself out doing the blocks for this swap. I'm a little

nervous about this swap. So, in the interests of my sanity, I'd like to tell

you all: I did my best on these blocks. My best may not be perfect. Therefore,

if you receive one of my blocks and you:

a. don't like the fabrics I chose

b. don't think my workmanship is "up to snuff"

c. don't want to use my "ugly" block on your quilt, then please feel free to:

1)     throw it out

2)     take it apart and restitch it

3)     use it on the back

4)     make a pot holder out of it

or

5)      give it away

But, please don't feel obligated to tell me about it!   Lie, prevaricate, look at it sideways, standing on your head with your eyes crossed, or what ever it takes to say: "thanks for the lovely block".

In exchange for your total lack of honesty, I promise...  to improve with each new swap I join,

to use the other blocks I receive as a guide and that if your block arrives on a day when I am so cranky even Kaye Wood couldn't piece a block to suit me, I shall put it aside and look at it again when hormones have calmed down and find the beauty in your hard work. I know I am going to love whatever you send,  cause you all sent it"

 Lottery Block Swap Rules

The Lottery will run for 12 months, ending December 31.

All blocks should be sent to the lottery hostess. You do not need to send a SASE with your lottery blocks. If you should win the lottery, when you receive your package, please send a check or money order to the hostess for the amount it cost her to mail your package. She is paying for the postage out of her own pocket. If you do not refund the postage, you will be banned from ALL swaps.

1.      Anyone may join the lottery swap at any time.

2.      You DO NOT have to do all 12 months.

3.      You must make the pattern selected for the month you are sending blocks.

4.      You must send at least one block and no more than six blocks.

5.      You must follow the color choice picked for the month you are sending blocks.

6.      If you are making more than one block, each block may be from a different fabric.

11.   The number of blocks you can win will depend on the number of blocks received by the hostess. If the hostess receives 30 blocks or less, there will be one winner; more than 30 blocks but less than 61, there will be 2 winners. If she receives 90 blocks there will be 3 winners.
