Lesson 4
In this lesson we will learn
to draw a star block with odd angles. We will also learn to use the cloning
tool and how to rotate.
1. Open you file
2. Click Block, then new
block and easy draw
3. Now click Block again then
drawing board set up.
4. When the box opens, click
the Easy Draw tab.
5. Remove check mark from
‘snap to grid’ by clicking on the check mark.
6. Remove the check mark from
‘Snap to lines and arcs’.
7. Now click the General tab.
8. Under ‘Snap to Grid
Points’ put 24 in both boxes.
9. Under block size lets put 6
10. Click on ‘Graph paper
tab’
11. Put the number 6 in both
boxes
12. Under options we want
‘Graph paper lines’.
Click OK and close the box
We are now going to draw ¼ of
the block, clone it and the rotate it till we have a full block. Hey! I heard
that, you can to do it!
1.
Click on the line
tool (That’s the pencil tool)
2.
Find the number 3
on the left side and draw a line from that number to the center of your paper.
Drop the line.
3.
Find the number 3
on the top and draw a line straight down to the center of your paper connecting
with the first line you drew. Drop line
4.
Save in
sketchbook
5.
Look on the left
side and click on the equal (=) sine to clean up your drawing.
6.
This is what you
should have on your board.

Note:
When drawing lines you can draw past the center point a little bit because
after you save your drawing and click the = sign, EQ will delete the excess
lines. This way you know you have the lines connected.
7.
Draw a line from
the top left hand corner to the center point of your board so that all three
lines are connected.

8.
Put your pencil
at the top on the number 3, draw downward and to the left till you reach the
center diagonal line where the top number 2 and the left number 2 intersect.
Save and click = to clean up your board.

9.
Draw a line from
the number 3 on the left to the diagonal line intersecting the two lines that
are already there. Save in Sketchbook and click =

WOW,
your doing great. Take a break for a minute and click on view, then sketchbook
and delete all the extra drawings from it. Do NOT delete the last one you
saved.
We
are now going to clone the drawing.
1.
Find the select
tool. This is the very first tool on the right hand side of your board. It has
a black arrow and a small black square on it.
2.
Click on the
small black square. A small window will open on your board called ‘Symmetry’.
3.
Click on the word
‘edit’ at the top and you will get a drop down menu.
4.
Click on ‘select
all’
5.
Your drawing
should now be Bold with small black squares showing on the outside edges.
6.
In the Symmetry
box click on the word Clone, then click on Rot 90.
7.
Your drawing
should now have your original drawing and a ‘copy’ of the original only it is
rotated 90 degrees and slightly off-set for from the original.
8.
Move your cursor
to the drawing and click and hold on one of the darker black lines.
9.
While still
holding the line move the clone right and line up the center and bottom lines
with the original drawing. Your board should now look like this.

Save
and refresh (=)
10.
Click on the
small black square again to open the symmetry box.
11.
Click edit,
select all
12.
click clone
13.
This time I want
you to click rot 180
14.
Click on one of
the darker lines, hold and drag to the bottom half of your board, line up your
center lines and drop.
You
now have a completed star and only drew one section of it.

The
cloning tool is a very useful tool especially if you are drawing a block that
you want all four sections to be identical. And it saves lots of drawing time.
HOMEWORK:
Color
and send me your drawing!

Now
see that wasn’t so bad was it?
