WELCOME TO OUR

SEWING ROOM

We will be making crib and lap quilts all year for donation to the Shriner’s Pediatric Burn Unit.

The children in this unit range in age from infant to 21 yrs old.

In 2006 we donated over 40 quilts to the unit. We hope to have even more this year.

The Shriners Hospital in Galveston is a 30-bed pediatric burn hospital providing comprehensive acute care and reconstructive and rehabilitative care to children who have been burned. There is no charge to the patient or family for any of the medical care or services provided by Shriners Hospitals. This hospital is one of 22 Shriners Hospitals throughout North America. The Galveston Hospital is equipped and staff to treat the following:

   1. Acute burns

   2. Patients needing plastic reconstructive or restorative surgery as a result of "healed" burns

   3. Severe scarring, resulting in contractures or interfering with mobility of the limbs

   4.  Scarring and deformity of the face.

The Galveston Hospital has been actively engaged in clinical and basic research since its opening. Research activities at the Galveston Hospital focus on five major areas: cardiopulmonary problems; metabolism; molecular responses to injury; wound healing; and long-term outcomes of burned children. The Galveston Hospital was a pioneer in developing special pressure garments, called Jobst garments, which burn patients wear to help reduce scarring.

The Stomp’n Stitchers are honored to be able to help raise the spirits of a small child or an injured or aged Veteran by giving the warmth of a quilt made with loving hands and filled with healing prayers. We hope to bring a smile to someone’s face and perhaps a glimmer of hope for the future.
